About Coach Porter

As a former player and coach at the Division One Level, Coach Porter knows what it takes to Develop All-around Players. In high school, he was recognized as City League Basketball Player of the Year, Fabulous 22, Post-Gazette Athlete of the Year and Dapper Dan U.S. East All-Star Team.

He was a four year starter at the University of Pittsburgh and was the all time leader in assists, second in steals and a member of the 1,000 Point Club when he finished his career. Porter led the Big East in assists during the 1990 season.

His coaching career started in 1989 at the University of Pittsburgh, while still a collegiate basketball player. In 1997, he became the youngest Head Basketball Coach in Duquesne University’s history.

In 2004, Porter’s AAU Team won the National AAU Championship for 2nd Grade Boys. This year, his Upper St. Clair team won the WPIAL AAAA Championship.

Coach Porter is passing his basketball legacy to his son, D.J., an incredible athlete in his own right. Coach Porter looks forward to each AAU tournament, whose players continue to bring home many trophies. He is now working with inner-city players making a difference in his community.
